In the heart of Adelaide’s CBD, Makan channels a vibrant, pan-Asian larder into a polished, produce-led menu.

The cooking leans bright and aromatic, balancing citrus and umami with a confident snap of chilli, moving effortlessly from smaller dishes to bigger plates.

To start, early bites might see an umeshu oyster lifted with ponzu and chives, or salmon betel leaves folded around green mango, peanut and fresh roe.

For larger plates, the kitchen turns up the dial with grilled sambal prawns featuring Spencer Gulf king prawns, and crispy “jiao ma” chicken with pepper nam jim, cabbage, onion salad and coriander oil.

To accompany, roti and rice keep things comforting, while veg-forward choices like stir-fried Thai basil and king oyster mushroom, and the Burmese favourite lahpet thoke, add breadth and crunch.

To finish, desserts look south-east: pandan Basque cheesecake with a caramelised crust and tropical perfume, and mango pudding glossed with coconut cream and gula Melaka.

Make a date, bring good company, and let the flavours lead the way - a little bite here, a bigger bite there, and plenty to talk about in between!
