In Fortitude Valley, Kolapasi Indian Canteen channels the soul of Tamil Nadu, plating up South India’s heartening flavours with generosity and care. The room is cosy and lively, its warmth matched by cooking that leans into aromatic spice, slow roasts, and homely comfort. One recent guest called it the best Indian food they had tasted since moving abroad, a sentiment that speaks to the kitchen’s devotion to tradition.

Fragrant masala chai and filter coffee set the tone, while flaky parotta and Kongu biryani rice hint at the journey ahead. Biryani arrives with classic raita and salan, a Hyderabadi-style peanut gravy, ready to mingle. From Chicken Chukka Biriyani to Nilgiri Chicken Ghee rice, regional favourites take centre stage. On the savoury side, Pallipayam Chicken glows with caramelised onions and spice, balanced by the gentle richness of butter paneer or the grill-kissed paneer roast.

Crisp samosa and a playful paneer tikka samosa open the conversation; tender coconut payasam or syrup-soaked gulab jamun bring it to a fragrant close. Settle in, explore a tale or two behind the recipes, and let the spices do the talking. Book your seat, bring your appetite, and go south by mouth.
