Sotto Sopra is Italian for ‘upside down’, so called because this restaurant is turning typical Italian dining on its head.
This relaxed yet sophisticated trattoria on the beach is run by Chef and Restaurateur Alessandro Pavoni and his partners from the well-respected Two Hat Mosman restaurant, Ormeggio at The Spit. You can expect glorious fresh pasta, dishes from the imported Italian wood oven and a few must-try surprises on the menu.
Think wood-fired flat bread with sea salt, rosemary and local prosciutto, fish of the day on the bone with capers and lemon or braised lamb shoulder with carrot puree and mustard jus. The menu is seasonally-driven, so though the menu may change, you can always expect fresh, mouth-watering Italian cuisine.
The wine list offers a wide ranging and affordable selection of Italian varietals. There is a Coravin system in use, ensuring access to some truly exceptional wines.

So we had a reservation to dine at Sotto Sopra however unfortunately the kitchen had to close due to an incidnet. We instead dined at a sister restaurant called Chiosco. Boy were we pleased. We heard that Sotto Sopra was amazing through friends of our who go their regularly. Its a shame we couldnt dine there but we were very well looked after at Chiosco! Thank you so much.

Had dinner with a girlfriend last night at Sotto Sopra. Superb! Incredible service, didn't feel in the least that I was a second class citizen due to being a First Table diner (as I have in other restaurants) and my dietary allergies were catered for happily. Honestly, the most delightful dining experience I've had in a while. The food was beautifully prepared, delicious and really couldn't fault anything. Will definitely be coming back because I want to have the kingfish crudo, chicken liver crackers and lemon custard ice cream again. My friend said the tiramisu was outstanding. Thank you Sotto Sopra and see you again soon.

It was our first visit and won’t be our last. Great food and lovely accommodating staff. Giamarco manages every table with his personal touch. His passion of great food and wine is infectious and left a lasting impression on our table. Always manages to find time to explain the different food journeys and options. Great way to explore the wonders of Italian food on the northern beaches

Outside of visiting Italy - this is the best Italian restaurant I have eaten at. I would go here for the bread alone, but the meal just kept getting better and better, until we reached the beautiful tiramisu conclusion. Thank you.

A fab last minute booking for our family. We came straight from the beach and were warmly welcomed with lovely hospitality and a delicious menu.
Food was fab and arrived quickly, the children all loved their food too and had some colouring to keep them busy which is always greatly appreciated.
As the night progressed, more groups arrived for special occasions and were dressed up so first table worked brilliantly for us!

This is the first time I have used First Table and I was a bit hesitant going to such a nice restaurant so early for dinner but we were made to feel so welcome from the moment we arrived. We had the banquet and each dish was so delicious. The waiter explained each dish and the speed which the food arrived was perfect; we never felt rushed and had a very enjoyable evening. A large selection of quality wine by the glass is also available. A Wonderful food experience. Would highly recommend Sotto Sopra.

This was fantastic!
We chose the 7 course banquet. If there was anything listed that needed to be changed there was absolutely no problem. We changed a couple of things and everything was perfect. The restaurant was packed and people were getting turned away. Everyone did their jobs well and we had a lovely evening. We will definitely be back. Pasta night for $15 sounds awesome. The gnocchi at the banquet was 'melt in your mouth' delicious! Thank you so much for a lovely night.

Sat for lunch today and we were lucky enough to have Francesco wait our table, this man is amazing. His passion & knowledge of the food, wine and culture of the business is outstanding and he’s happy to recommend and share.
His recommendations were perfect and he made our lunch experience special. These boys know what they’re doing so for that real authentic Italian experience try this place at least once. Do not miss the garlic bread, and just quietly, the best coffee I’ve had this year.

We really had a lovely evening here. Staff were very friendly and attentive and the food just delicious. We ordered eggplant parmigiana with brioche garlic bread to start (shared between 2), then had Sunday beef roast and fish pie as mains. So yum. Had 5pm sitting for our lil date night and loved it, it was nice as we saw the sun go down.

Good experience. Service excellent. The first course fantastic....gnocchi to die for. The secondi a little disappointing. Prawns excellent but too much Italian spinach overwhelmed the prawns. Great dessert and coffee...will choose differently next time. Will be there again soon,

Our lunch started off nice with delicious entrees and fresh bread. The gnocchi, kingfish and caluiflower were all lovely (and the sizes were great). We then waited almost an hour for our mains, which were somewhat underwhelming. The duck ragout was a ltitle bit strange (the meat seemed like mince and it was quite salty) and the beef was a little overcooked and didn't come with a salad or anything (this could have been stated when ordering so we could order some sides). The prawns were delicious. We decided not to have dessert because of the long wait between entree and main. Overall, it was OK but I wouldn't rush back.

Sotto Sopra delivered such an awesome service, very knowledgable and attentive. We had eggplant (char-grilled) with tomato based which I think was okay. Then had prosciutto with char grilled bread. Prosciutto was really good and the bread is just perfect. For main, we had duck raggou-served with pasta which for me it was too salty. Whole cod fish with capers, onion which was nice, perfectly cooked, and fresh. Then we had angus beef with beetroot which for me was over-cooked. Meat was a bit tough and overly salty. It would be better if they put salt on the side. But overall it was a great experience.

Restaurant was really nice, warm atmosphere, great service, really nice and helpful staff. We were a party of 4 people, with 2 little kids and they were great. they provided some drawing things for the kids plus they were very accommodating. Love it.

Wow, I have driven past this restaurant for 2 years and did not know what I was missing out on. Wonderful food, engaging service and a comfortable space. The degustation menu was a fine introduction to many of their signature dishes. Highlights included the crunchy-crust wood fire bread with creamy ricotta, the tender angus steak and of course the elegant light-as-a-feather tiramisu. Coffee and wine all first class.

The food has an amazing taste but is a little bit simple..we were expecting a little bit more from a fine dining restaurant. We had the banquet menu and is pretty abundant! We couldn't finish everything! The service was amazing.
