As pure and soothing as a perfectly preserved shell, Pilu positions itself as a luxury beach house next to the beach. Surrounded by lush, preened trees and uninterrupted views of the ocean, Pilu sets itself apart from the rest with an other-worldly dining experience that swirls majestically around the beach. Inside, everything is spotless, perfect and symmetrical, welcoming in the panoramic views with open arms. Outside it's Sydney. Inside, however, it's 100% Sardinia.
When it comes to authentic flavours, Pilu takes the 'less is more approach with a small but considered "The Sardinian Experience" 5-course menu on offer, normal cost of $160 per person, has something for everyone. The star of the menu has to be the roasted suckling pig, cooked to a sublime level of tenderness and served with pickled walnut pesto that cuts right through with sharp acidity.
From the sea comes chargrilled octopus with garlic and potato cream; a soft and sumptuous dish that gets better with each bite. Finally, fresh Sardinian pasta comes into the fold, stuffed with potato and pecorino and served with burnt butter. Uncomplicated gastronomy that's authentically Sardinian, Pilu is one of Sydney's culinary greats.
