Since 1986, Bay Tinh has been a Marrickville icon in Sydney’s Inner West, cherished by Vietnamese locals and curious Western diners alike.

Its appeal lies in honest, time-honoured cooking at great value, a place where the soul of Vietnamese cuisine takes centre stage. The kitchen is guided by balance and finesse, favouring fine textures, bright herbs and layered broths. It is the sort of menu that invites return visits, with breadth enough to satisfy devoted regulars and first-timers.

Starters have a loyal following: cha gio spring rolls crackle with chicken, black fungus and vegetables, while muc muoi brings salt and pepper calamari lifted by a clean lime sauce.

Bowls of pho bo comfort with a traditional, patiently tended broth, and canh chua offers a tangy-sweet duet of tamarind, tomato, pineapple and okra. House-made sauces are the quiet heroes, tuned to each dish rather than overwhelming it. Many favourites remain unique to Bay Tinh, a testament to decades of craft.

The mood is buoyed by constancy and community; this is an Inner West fixture where good food does the talking. There is thoughtfulness for varied diets, without compromising authenticity.

Book a table, follow the waft of herbs and spice, and let Bay Tinh steal your heart.
