Tucked into the back streets of Surry Hills, Mishy’s evokes the intimacy of a private kitchen with the polish of a seasoned pro.

At the helm is Mishy herself, whose magnetic demeanour and two decades of cooking in renowned restaurants and as a personal chef lend an easy confidence - good food, done simply, sings.

That simplicity begins at Flemington Markets, where she hand-picks the week’s produce. Locally sourced, sustainable ingredients set the rhythm, cooked with Australian virgin olive oil (fries excepted), and served in a cosy, exclusive setting that feels like a neighbourhood secret shared among friends.

The menu shifts with the day’s best, favouring unfussy, nourishing plates and generous portions that let freshness speak for itself.

Flavours travel lightly but surely: harissa on warm house focaccia; the briny pop of rock oysters; lamb rump deepened by smoked aubergine and bright barberries; and a 300 g sirloin lifted by zesty zhug and a side of proper French fries. Vegetables take star turns too, from baby white courgettes with preserved lemon to Brussels sprouts with Dutch carrots and a lick of harissa.

Desserts glide in with a playful touch, whether a lychee and kaffir-lime flan or a mango and passionfruit semifreddo, best enjoyed alongside one of their vibrant drinks.
