Urvik and Reagan made their mark in 2018, bringing a slice of Melbourne’s coffee culture to Brisbane with their Shakespearian-themed cafe, Method to the Madness, a Kenmore favourite. Now they have crossed the river to Chelmer with Fair Play Kitchen, a laid-back local that blends cafe craft with easygoing pub energy.

Mornings here lean generous and unpretentious. Think warm banana bread with butter and whipped cream, or avocado on toast lifted by honeyed Persian feta, herbed cherry tomatoes and house pickles. There is comfort in the classics too: poached eggs under a lick of spiced hollandaise with sautéed spinach and bacon on sourdough, while the Magpies Big Brekky brings the full weekend feast in one satisfying plate.
