Cuisine: Italian, Seafood, Vegetarian

Ormeggio at The Spit, located at D’Albora Marinas, offers Contemporary Italian cuisine in a spectacular waterside setting, overlooking Middle Harbour and Pearl Bay. It has Two Chef Hats in the Sydney Morning Herald’s Good Food Guide 2016 and has been a hatted restaurant since opening in 2009. Ormeggio is currently rated #44 in Gourmet Traveller’s Australia’s Top 100 Restaurants and has recently taken #1 position for 'Top Italian Restaurant' in The Savour Australia Hostplus Awards for Excellence 2016.

Executive Chef Alessandro Pavoni, Head Chef Victor Moya and their talented team utilise both new and traditional techniques of cooking, along with the finest produce, to deliver the Ormeggio experience.

Sydney Morning Herald says “Moored next to the sparkling waters of The Spit Ormeggio is, appropriately enough, a restaurant that likes to make waves. Don’t come here craving spag bol and tiramisu. Instead, owner/chef Alessandro Pavoni cleverly combines Italian tradition with his own hunger for new techniques and pushing boundaries.”

Ormeggio is the Italian word for ‘mooring’ or ‘berth’ which reflects the restaurants unique waterfront setting, and as evening falls, restaurant diners enjoy the impressive view of sunset over Middle Harbour.

Ormeggio at The Spit is open for lunch Thursday to Sunday and dinner Wednesday to Sunday.

Benvenuto e buon appetito!

A magnificent degustation 'Trip through Italy'. Superb service and the waiters were so knowledgeable about each course and what a view!
This was such delicious food, beautifully presented and innovative. Sensational.

We had an absolutely wonderful experience at Ormeggio. Both the service and the food were outstanding. We did the 7 course degustation with matching wines which I highly recommend. Look forward to my next visit to Ormeggio.

Last nights Taste through Italy’s 9 course degustation meal was outstanding. Every mouthful was an explosion of flavour and texture.
I consider this a special occasion restaurant which is great value.
The service is very friendly and very Italian.

Fabulous dining experience from the first morsel of the exquisite porcini mushroom tart to the tiny pumpkin tart with almond. Highlight was the pasta course - bursting with flavour. All set against the backdrop of the sparkling harbour. Nice to see a boy rowing past with his dog in the front of his dinghy.

A truly unique dining experience, Ormeggio is a show stopper. Beautiful food matched with personable, approachable service, cannot fault this venue. I feel very lucky to have come across this on First Table. Soave and Primitivo suggested by the sommelier were well priced and great pairs with the variety of the food, which I might add was both technically delicate and textually spot on! A real gem in the crown of the Sydney Dining Group.

We so enjoyed our trip through Italy. First table made this extravaganza fit our budget. Great service great wine greatest food. We loved everything.

The warm greeting at the door set the scene for an amazing long lunch. 'The trip through Italy' degustation was an amazing experience. Every dish was described to us by the staff and the flavores and textures of each dish were excellent. We didn't do matching wines but the sommelier recommended a great mid range wine from the menu.

An excellent 3 hour experience in a lovely setting. Couldn't ask for more.

Food was great from start to finish, wine matches were on par for the most part with the pre dessert pear dish being an incredibly good match. Also really enjoyed the Carbonara Cappuccino. Exacting and accommodating service and very friendly all the way through. Unobtrusive but always ready to assist.

Wonderful experience at Ormeggio! Lunch for 2 ended up being around $250 including drinks, but would still recommend for a special occasion. Food was brilliant - very refined, not too heavy, beautifully presented.. all together delicious!

It was a beautiful experience - waiters sat us by the full paneled windows so we had a stunning view by the water.
You can add oysters, truffles, or a long trip to the experience. I had the oysters which was served in a raspberry/tomato sauce

We started with Stuzzichini (snacks) - there was a corn taco, polenta and blini (more like a tartlet, but the seaweed shell was amazing and so umami!)
My favourite when doing degustations are always the snacks simply because the chef really gets to go creative, and this did not disappoint.

Next we had the sourdough with a fermented tomato butter. The bread was so fluffy and warm - and I am SO thankful that Ormeggio served the butter separately for each person! (My SO tends to take too much butter when having bread, leaving me with none. This saved me)

Maybe it is because we started early, service was quite quick for us (little waiting, not rushed!). We finished in about 2 hours. After the bread, we had the yellowfin tartare with roe and seafood chips (3 different kinds), my favourite being the squid ink chip. After that we had another fish dish -- murray cod with three capsicum sauces - beautiful colours and a delight to eat! Thereafter came the wild mushroom soup -- I wish I had added truffle to this! (it was an option). The Bottoni (pasta dish) was a highlight - it was filled with eggplant parmigiana, I really wonder how it would have tasted if we replaced this with truffle! On a note about the truffles, I didn't add it on that day but after having the dishes I can totally imagine how it would have added on to the dishes that we had an option to add it on to. Often you go to restaurants and you are allowed to add the truffle to any dish --- and I have done that only to have had the flavours clash. Clearly Ormeggio doesn't just see the truffle as a frivolous add on!

We had 2 desserts -- one the strawberry panna cotta (very creamy, the acidity from the strawberries worked well!), and the pumpkin cake with balsamic. I have had many 'inventive' desserts -- but often the flavours do not complement. Every component in the 2 desserts I tried worked beautifully together. We ended the meal with petit fours.

Overall worth it getting to Mosman for this! (By the way, parking is quite expensive -- there are direct buses from spit junction to the bridge)

A trip through Italy was ok, but not amazing. I felt the food tasted very creamy and oily and flavours were so mixed, I could not enjoy the individuality of the ingredients. Portions were super small, but this was to be expected, its just a shame that when you are enjoying a course, its gone in two bites. The only decent sized portion of food was the bread, which I think they include so you don,t go home feeling hungry. Even though you receive seven courses they are so small you still feel like you could have received a little more and still managed the seven courses easily. Why Murray Cod was on the menu, is beyond me, maybe the fish has made its way to the Italian Riveria, but its a freshwater fish so who knows .The waiters are friendly and polite, and do their job well, but the Italian accent, so strong at times, I could not understand the explanation of the food on my plate, they also read out the ingredients to script and did not really socially engage with us, it was like explanation and then gone. The waiters also suggest the most expensive wines on the menu. I asked for a glass of Shiraz only to be offered a similar Italian version at the price of $25 per glass. It is not the sort of restaurant where you want to be asking the price, especially if you are on a date. My girlfriend and I decided it would be the first and last time here, but I wish them well. I think we will stick to Tru Blue in Balgowlah, they have the flavours and portions sizes just right and great value for money.

Fantastic food, and extremely accommodating and informed staff. At a table for two we had one pregnant celiac diner, staff put a lot of thought in how to make the menu work best for her and went out of their way to accommodate changes. Look forward to returning.

Had another amazing dining experience at Ormeggio - stunning food, and table by the waterside, with fantastic waiters and service all round. It really doesn't get better than this in Sydney - please do yourself a favour and come and visit!

- dined at Ormeggio on

When we arrived, we were surprised that we had a little private dining area, which made it even more special. Food was impeccable, view and weather was perfect, and the waiters were awesome - even when he brought out our first dessert and he realised half the table was missing (we had to top up parking), so he said he'd wait until the rest of the party came back, and lo and behold, when they came back, a minute later, the dessert came out. It was a perfect afternoon catching up with friends. We will definitely be back!
