If a down-to-earth pub with a social atmosphere is on the agenda, The Lord Gladstone in Chippendale has all the drinking and dining needs ticked.

Hidden towards the Central Park end of Broadway in Sydney, The Gladdy is the neighbourhood's local watering hole with a laid-back vibe, friendly staff, art-lined walls and good tunes pumping from the in-house sound system. Decked out in colourful murals and chilled-out beats, it is equally suited to a midweek meal or a session with mates, while ample outdoor seating makes it perfect for long summer days.

Serving top-notch pub grub, the chefs make a point of using local ingredients, with 2,000 native plants recently sprouting on the rooftop herb garden. The menu features a range of classic pub favourites, including awesome burgers, schnitzel and braised beef cheek, alongside vegetarian options like four cheese eggplant parmi and vegan schnitzel.

Share plates like Cajun calamari and zucchini fritters are also on offer, while sides and smaller plates ensure there’s something for every appetite.

Drinks are equally well considered, with quality beers on tap, tasty cocktails, and rooftop pours that complement the food perfectly.

A visit to The Lord Gladstone is well worth it - more than your average pub, it takes things up a notch with a vibrant industrial fitout, murals and a plant-packed rooftop fitted with its very own bar!
