Platform 818 is very much the kind of restaurant that is grounded in the history of its grand location. Situated on 818 George Street, it turns out this neighbourhood in Sydney has plenty of stories to tell.

Located in Chippendale on the outskirts of Sydney, Platform 818 pays tribute to the central station, as well as the local history that has shaped this unique part of the city. The restaurant itself submerges itself in the architectural beauty of the building it calls home. Incredible features, like crescent windows, sweeping hallways and exposed brick walls, lend themselves well to the restaurant's exclusivity. Paired with such features are luxurious furnishings, intricate table settings and a gorgeous light design that makes Platform 818 a stunning destination.

The food follows suit. A novel contribution to modern Australian cuisine, the menu sets out to push boundaries when it comes to contemporary gastronomy. Dinner here is a leisurely affair, which is why you are encouraged to start off with some Yamba prawns or housemade flatbread before you tuck into some bigger plates.

The mains delve deeper into Australian cooking with battered monkfish alongside gribiche and chips, lamb shoulder complimented by miso eggplant, and a vegetable terrine enhanced by a sweet pumpkin puree. Of course, Australia isn't Australia without prime cuts of meat, and here you can enjoy the full meaty depth of Riverina Angus Striploin and Murray Valley pork. And with a cheese course and dessert to fit in too, Platform 818 are really going above and beyond to deliver a well-rounded, Australian culinary experience.
