In Kotara, Newcastle, Hanok Korean BBQ Kotara sets the stage for an immersive Korean barbecue experience. Guided by a sensory-first philosophy, the kitchen plates dishes that look as good as they smell and taste, turning mealtimes into small celebrations in a lively, inviting setting.

The grill takes centre stage, with marbled Wagyu and richly flavoured short rib promising smoke, sizzle and deep, caramelised edges. Bright, punchy sides and salads cut through the richness, adding freshness and crunch while amplifying that classic Korean balance of heat, tang and umami.

Highlights include spicy baby octopus salad tossed with rocket and chive in an oriental dressing, and a Wagyu beef brisket salad laced with shallot and Spanish onion. From Wagyu short rib meat to the whole short rib, the focus is on quality cuts and clean, confident seasoning. For nibbles and comfort, you'll find deep fried vegetable dumplings and the crowd-pleasing chew of spicy rice cake with vegetables and fish cake.

Energetic yet welcoming, it's a place to linger over the theatre of the grill and the hum of conversation. Book a table, bring good company, and let the sizzle do the talking.
