On Brice Avenue in Mooroolbark, Oshima Mooroolbark makes a persuasive case for all-you-can-eat done properly. Inspired by the spirit of Japan’s Oshima island, this two-level restaurant channels warm hospitality and a modern outlook, serving an immersive spread at a full rate of $42.80 per person. The twist? Nothing languishes on a buffet; every dish is cooked to order and delivered fresh from the kitchen, so the pace feels leisurely and the flavours stay bright.

The menu roams widely across favourites and curiosities alike. Crisp karaage and light-as-air tempura share the stage with glistening sushi and sashimi, while teriyaki brings sweet-savoury gloss. There is beef tataki with ponzu and wasabi mayo, a comforting bowl of Japanese ramen, and a simply seasoned wagyu beef steak, served with salt and pepper to let the marbling speak. Even the vegetable spring roll, paired with sweet chili sauce, lands at the table hot and crackling.

Set across two levels with a modern fit-out, the room carries an easy, contemporary energy, while the service keeps plates flowing and conversation unhurried. Save room for a graceful finish: green tea panna cotta or its nutty cousin, black sesame panna cotta. For those in Mooroolbark chasing a generous taste of Japan without the buffet blur, this is the move. Pull up a chair, order with abandon, and let the good times roll—one plate at a time.
