dinner

In sun-drenched Surfers Paradise, Clifford’s Grill and Lounge fires up a confident celebration of flame and finesse by the sea.

An Australian grill with Pan-Asian influence, it suits post-work cocktails as handily as midweek dinner dates, bringing smoke-licked flavours and relaxed coastal polish to the Gold Coast.

The kitchen leans into charcoal and patience. Small plates set an indulgent tone, from wagyu brisket pastrami with pickle and sauerkraut to crisp salt and pepper squid and Sicilian arancini. There’s the pleasure of a whole chargrilled free-range chicken with American slaw, grilled corn and crisp onion rings, or the briny snap of freshly shucked Pacific oysters brightened with mignonette and lime.

From there, the grill takes centre stage: Black Angus eye fillet with truffle mash and roasted mushrooms, a grain-fed rib eye with signature peppercorn sauce and potato rosti, or grilled salmon over garlic pomme purée.

For sharing, a slow-cooked lamb shoulder with salsa verde or a chargrilled T-bone invites conviviality, while three-hour pork belly and six-hour beef cheek deliver deep, savoury comfort.

Service is warm and easygoing, with the team happily steering diners towards a well-matched drink. Whether it’s for a small gathering or date night, there’s something for everyone!

Follow the flames, arrive hungry, and let Clifford’s do the chargrilled chat.
