The food is the star of this show. it's been awhile since I've been here, and its different . In Hartsyard's case, different is better. The food is delicious , inventive and surprising. The fried cheese, the pork jowel and the ridiculously sublime mango dessert are worthy of a return visit. At half price, the food is amazing value . However, we got carried away and ordered many drinks so we spent more than expected but we were very fabulous and amusing. Dorothy, one of the owners was on the floor being assisted by a very a knowledgable and friendly waiter. They were helpful, fun and good at what they do. Highly recommended

Hartsyard maintain its excellent food in Modern Australian, very nice Asian twist too. I would love to go again.

Our dinner at hartsyard was absolutely delicious! I was obsessed with the fried cheese and we talked about ordering more later but we were way too stuffed to eat any more, regardless of how much we wanted to. Gushed about hartsyard to friends already, and would recommend people reading this to book a table as well!

Excellent! Innovative and delicious food in a cosy Newtown location. Warm and efficient service. The fried cheese, beef tartare and pork jowls were the highlights. At least that was until dessert arrived!

I had a lovely Saturday lunch at Hartsyard with a friend. I’d been once previously & enjoyed it & although the restaurant has been refurbished & the menu was completely different it exceeded my expectations. The service was excellent & the food imaginative ... each dish creatively presented with delicious flavour/textural combinations. We shared four dishes, two smaller ones including the best beef tartare I’ve had served with beef crackle, & a delicious Kingfish head cooked in XO butter which we accompanied with smoked celeriac, zucchini & peas ... the endive with whipped tofu we started with was just as delicious as was the meringue with honeycomb & fried milk to finish. I look forward to returning to try some of the other dishes that looked equally as interesting ... and to have the beef tartare again. Thanks Hartsyard!

Great experience here, so glad we made the trip! Worth a try.

The food was really nice. We had the fried cheese, beef tartare (really nice), snapper (really good). pork jowl and miso eggplant.

The first three items were the stand outs, I would definitely come back for the tartare and snapper.

Food and wine were both great. Even at 6pm the venue was about half full. Really great restaurant. The fried cheese, beef tartare, miso eggplant and John Dory* were all spectacular. Definitely recommend.
*John Dory not covered under first table 50% discount.

Whilst the food was tasty and well-cooked we felt the menu was overpriced, small serves, limited menu.

Food and service were great however it was a bit disappointing to have a lot of menu items not being 50% off. I appreciate the commercials behind the decision however you need to be upfront about it on the booking as we felt a bit misled.

Decided to visit because had a really good experience a few years ago. Upon arrival, we were disappointed to learn that about 1/3 of the menu, a lot of what we wanted to try was not part of the promotion which we think goes against the spirit of the FirstTable ethos (I think is misleading and deceptive as there is no mention of exclusions at the time of booking). It would've swayed our decision to go. What we did try was fine but not as memorable as when it was in the hands of its previous owners (during our dining experience, we discovered it had changed hands 2 years ago). Subjectively, the menu exclusions left a bad taste in our mouth and we can't help but compare it to our previous experience.

Loved the selection of small plates to share, and good selection of wines by the glass, with some interesting and unusual varietals.

We enjoyed our lunch here. Delicious food (albeit a bit on the salty side), creative and beautifully presented with a friendly service. Wish I had more space in my tummy to try more things on the menu. A repeat visit is definitely warranted.

We had a wonderful lunch at Hartsyard. The menu was quite veggie driven which was nice, and everything had lots of deep flavour. We had the kingfish sashimi with pineapple and jalapeno which was a nice combination, but the jalapeno overpowered the rest of the flavours a bit. The king mushroom was the highlight with delicious umami flavours. The beef was beautifully cooked, but I wasn't a huge fan of the ox tongue. Also had a delicious, unfiltered white wine blend which I can recommend. Overall, a very tasty meal.
