dinner

In Thornbury, Melbourne, Barton Fink plays to the crowd with feel-good cooking and a relaxed, neighbourhood spirit. The menu wears its heart on its sleeve, leaning into tried-and-true favourites and generous plates built for lingering over conversation.

Starters do the heavy lifting: garlicky prawns mopped up with toasted pita, and buffalo chicken wings that bring spice and comfort. Then come the hearty classics – a golden chicken parma under Napoli sauce and molten mozzarella with a tumble of chips, or a sealed grass-fed scotch fillet, chips and salad on the side, finished with your pick of plain, mushroom or peppercorn sauce.

Those craving a two-hander can lock onto a beef burger stacked with pickles and burger sauce, or a hand-crumbed chicken burger lifted by sriracha mayo. Lighter turns arrive with a Caesar salad or roasted pumpkin salad, and the finale keeps it old-school: cheesecake, whipped cream and berry coulis.

It's the sort of place that rewards appetite and easy company – unfussy, welcoming and primed for midweek suppers, catch-ups and low-key dates. Settle in, order your favourite, and let the chips fall where they may!
