dinner

In Prahran, Canai by Roti Bar channels the soul of Malaysian roti with a contemporary, cross-cultural twist. It's generous, hands-on eating that balances heat, richness and aromatic depth.

Begin with small plates that signal intent. Satay chicken arrives char-grilled and lush with peanut sauce, while a golden curry puff gives way to curried potato. Fusion finds a playful groove in the roti roller and kampung arancini, the latter tucked with chicken or mushrooms and lifted by spiced aioli.

At the centre sits the ritual: tear into fluffy roti canai, swipe through fish curry, dhal and sambal, or choose Malaysian murtabak for flaky layers wrapped around savoury mince. The kitchen moves with confidence between heritage and invention, serving these classics alongside confit duck breast rendang with gnocchi or pasta masak lemak where creamy comfort meets fragrant spice.

Make it a Prahran outing and let the roti set the tempo. Book a table, bring an appetite for discovery, and roll with it!
