dinner

In the heart of Fitzroy, Bistro X is a modern bistro with a distinctly Melbourne heartbeat.

Here, classic French technique shines under the evening lights, where hyper-seasonal produce and a curated menu set the pace. Blending Australian creativity with the warmth of a neighbourhood favourite, the room provides the perfect setting for a languid supper.

Snacks set a playful tone: Baker bleu sourdough arrives with whipped seaweed butter, while a dainty duck liver tarlette hides black apple and comté. From there, richness meets restraint: MB86+ black onyx wagyu brisket with mash, mustard velouté and glazed carrot, or a wagyu burger with X-rated sauce, maple bacon, cheese and fries. Lighter moments land in cured ocean trout with crème fraîche, chives and rye flatbread, or a wild mushroom risotto folded through shimeji and king brown.

Sides keep things spry, think broccolini with mandarin and smoked almond, or brussels sprouts mornay glossed with pomegranate molasses and pine nut, before a finale of Paris-brest with smoked almond praline and chocolate chantilly, or the comfort of sticky date pudding.

Swing by for an exceptional dinner or a late-night nibble, and let good times find their course - after all, in Fitzroy, joie de vivre is always on the menu.
