Isla Cantina

Don't get us wrong, the Gold Coast is gorgeous, but don't you sometimes wish you could jet off to Mexico and California or even simply feel in your happiest sunshine state of mind? Now, that's where Isla Cantina comes in.

Attempting the impossible and creating a space that is equally inspired by all three destinations aforementioned, Isla Cantina is a mixing pot of summer-loving cultures for all of those who aren't getting enough sun along Australia's sunniest stretch of coastline. This eatery really does put Surfer's Paradise in its best light with panoramic views of the CBD from the deck outside and a beachy yet upmarket interior dining room that whispers romance and luxury.

The menu focuses primarily on Cal-Mex eats with delicious hints of modern and classic twists. To begin, we're diving in at the deep end with charred West Australian octopus with BBQ poblano, Oaxaca cheese croquettes and wagyu meatballs paired with pungent manchego cheese, tomatoes and chipotle. Even a black Angus flank steak manages to sneak its way onto the small plates menu which only makes one more excited for what's to come.

For mains, you can taco it up with your choice of filling or go all in with immense slow-roasted lamb barbacoa that can be picked up with a tortilla wrap and drenched in salsa verde. Vegetarians can also get in on the barbecued action with the chipotle roast cauliflower. Finally, such big flavours deserve an equally punchy beverage, and a smoky watermelon margarita might be just the ticket!
