Go big and bold with a meal at Momoda, which serves Chinese street food with a cheeky contemporary twist.

Momoda is Chinese slang for ‘mwah’ and it’s impossible not to fall in love with the industrial chic vibe and buzzy energy of this hip little hideaway.

Tuck into salmon tartare from the raw bar, market-fresh shellfish, mouthwatering meat dishes, filling rice bowls and an excellent selection of salads, pickles and vegetarian stir-frys.

Stand out dishes include ox cheek braised for 14-hours and Peking pig ear with prune vinegar, although when the food is this packed with authentic flavours, you can’t go far wrong.

An enormous drinks list is equally satisfying. Stay local with a selection of New World wines, or be whisked away to China with an Oriental-inspired cocktail. Our order is the Leng Lui, a fragrant blend of elderflower, vodka, lavender and lychee liqueur.

Their sister restaurant, Wild Duck, is more formal but equally delicious.

A fine example of a Chinese Contemporary food. Our meal was delicious with excellent staff service. In a great location for a nice meal before going to the theatre. Will definitely recommend to friends.

Absolutely delicious food with seamless service - thank you for such a lovely evening.

The crispy skin barramundi was our favourite, followed by the special fried rice with prawns and scallops. Actually the scallop entree was so beautiful - that might be the favourite! I can’t choose.

We had a wonderful dinner and looking forward to the next feast.

We had a lovely meal at Momoda. The service was very attentive, the cocktails tasty and the food was amazing- we particularly loved the Kangaroo spring rolls and the mini Mushroom burger which had great texture and flavours. The dumplings and sauce were also zingy and the frozen ice cream divine.

One of Canberra's hidden gems - excellent food, attentive but unobtrusive service. A bit chilly - bring a jacket!

Dined here on a weeknight with some friends. Food and services was fantastic (attentive but not intrusive) and I will definitely be back again. We had the peppery chicken, xinjiang lamb ribs, crispy eggplant, crispy barramundi with XO sauce and typhoon fried rice. The lamb ribs were melt in the mouth and delicious; the peppery chicken had a nice warm but not hot kick to them; and the eggplant was crispy on the outside but tender on the inside. The typhoon fried rice had lots of yummy crispy bits on top as well. The only suggestion I have is if it is winter, to ask for a table in the back room as the front room is a little cold.

The most amazing dinner I’ve had in a long time! Restaurant has a great vibe with vintage pieces on display while having a modern upbeat. Food was to die for, especially the Peppery Chicken and Double Cheeseburger Dumplings!

Everything about Momoda was exceptionally good! We have also dined at their sister restaurant, Wild Duck, which was lovely...however, Momoda’s food, service and ambience is truly a force to be reckoned with!

We began by sharing several of their starters (the wild mushroom buns and scallops are especially awesome!!) which were all deliciously seasoned and cooked perfectly.
We paired our mains (Ox cheek and peppery chicken) and vegetable dish (stir fried greens with garlic and sesame were the best I’ve ever had) with a good quality Canberra district Sangiovese, which was also very reasonably priced. The Chinese twisted doughnut and the fried ice cream were also surprisingly delicious!

Our waiter, Alex, was also exceptionally good, being professional, gently spoken, knowledgeable and very helpful! Thank you Alex for adding to the experience of dining at Momoda...our new favourite restaurant (sorry Akiba!).

The restaurant is really funky and looks really sophisticated and upmarket while still being fun.

There are so many interesting appetisers it was hard to choose with kangaroo spring rolls and cheeseburger dumplings available just to name a few. We ended up getting cauliflower san choy bowl to share which was a nice starter but did not end up having anything else in the mixture which is different to any other san choy bow I've had. However, they do say its unconventional eating :)

Pork belly and lamb dan dan noodles were ordered for main with a side of chinese brocolli. This was a delicious meal and some of the best tasting lamb I have had.

Fried ice cream and chinese doughnut finished off the meal. The chinese doughnut was a rather "sticky" dessert and needed some icecream or sorbet to wash it down so my partner finished off some of my icecream.

The mains were the star of the show and super delicious. The waitstaff were nice and looked after us well. Next time we will be sure to try some more of the interesting appetisers on the menu. It is worth a visit and will be a great night out.

Wow we couldn't believe we had never been here before! Amazing food and flavours, plus some great twist on traditional Chinese. We chose to make our own feast and loved the springrolls!, Short rib and OX cheek. We will be back it was just delicious!

We had a girls weekend to Canberra, not sure of any restaurants there it’s always a lucky dip. Wow we got the jack pot with Momoda. We were greeted with a friendly welcome and shown our seat. The ambience was calming and quite, perfect for our catch up. We ordered the duck bun( best entree, tempted to order another), fungi spring roll, pork and chive dumplings, bokchoy and cabbage dumplings, lotus chips and cauliflower san Choy bowl.
After all of this, how can it get better?
Slow cooked Ox Cheek and spatchcock !! The flavours were spot on and cemented the positive night we were having.
We definitely will recommend to friends in Sydney travelling to Canberra !

Momoda offers a really different menu and our table of 4 couldn't agree on the most favourite item of the night as there were so many, like Mongolian style kangaroo spring roll, Kingbrown mushroom bun, Black pepper softshell crab, the Double cheeseburger dumpling (was a lot of fun) and Mung bean dessert. The Feed Me menus offer a great selection of the menu items. Food is full of different flavours and textures. The staff were friendly and attentive. We would all definitely recommend it.

Really great food and attentive service. With all the dishes sounding great, and 4 of us ready to break our diet, the menu had us lost for choice!!
We pretty much ordered half the menu. Entrees - cheeseburger dumplings (exactly that), pulled pork bun (slider heaven), and kangaroo spring rolls (next level awesome). Mains - twice cooked lamb ribs (slow then deep fried) a generous serving and very moorish, whilst ‘fatty’ the cooking technique broke the fat down so that it was creamy. Pork belly - sticky sweet and a drier style belly; Soft shell crab black pepper was good; and the ox cheek was tender (although I wished I had some salt to draw out the gamey flavoring). We couldn’t decide on a rice, but went the DanDan noodles (which I recommmend as the were a meal in themselves). And as we were now following full, dessert was missed (next time).
With Our food, it was definitely on a sweet/salty base - all the main dishes were on the sweet side. Next time I would try other things to gauge if this is the style of cuisine. Seriously though, this was a truly excellent experience.

Great first visit. On the whole, the food quality and taste were great, but we thought a couple of dishes missed their mark.

Pros: Interesting menu, prompt service. For our party of 4, First Tables saved us $110.
Cons: The place was cold! For 5pm seating, the venue needs to start heating the space earlier in cool weather. A few hits and misses with dishes.

Food was definitely something different from the usual chinese food! We ordered the peppery chicken, ox cheek, lamb ribs, barramundi fillet, crispy eggplant and fried ice-cream for 4 adults and 1 toddler. Was definitely a bit too much. 4 dishes + 1 dessert would have been enough.

Lamb ribs was the standout for me, with the meet falling off the bones and the tenderness and flavours complementing well. My wife loved the barramundi fillet (smaller portion). Peppery chicken was tasty but a bit overfried so a little dry. Ox cheek was a big portion relative to the rest and quite tasty but nothing outstanding (coming from a Malaysian background and cooking my fair share of curry at home, so might have higher standards than others). Crispy eggplant was my mother-in-law's favourite, with a light crispy skin and soft inside. Eggplant presentation was a bit disappointing relative to the others, though. Some additional colour would've helped. Having had good fried ice-cream in Asia, the fried ice-cream was pretty appalling. The batter was too thick and wasn't warm/hot upon serving. It wasn't crispy too. Definitely wouldn't order that one again.

Would we go back again? Definitely not without any deals.

Would we recommend someone to go? Not top on our list and as long as the person(s) will not compare with the options in Sydney/Melbourne, maybe we would suggest.

This was our first, first table experience and we weren’t disappointed. We dined at Momoda in Canberra, which is Asian with a modern twist. We had no issues when it came to using first table or through the restaurant. Would definitely recommend to anyone who is thinking about giving it a go! Dan.

We arrived few minutes after 5 pm on Saturday evening and were surprised to see a third of the restaurant filled with diners already. The service was above the average with the waiter re-filling our glasses with water during the evening. The food was great, the signature dish, Momoda fried rice was fabulous, the flavours were so interesting, unusual, and so tasty. Fantastic food! We’ll be coming back.

We chose quite a few small dishes and I’m so glad we did. The pulled duck buns were a great start. The cauliflower san Choy bowl was different to what I thought it would be, but better. The crispy eggplant was delicious. We can’t wait to go there again.

My partner and I went to Minoda for dinner on a Friday night. We arrived at 5pm and were seated immediately. We order the $49pp feed me. I am vegetarian and the waiter kindly changed some of the menu items for vegetarian food. First course consisted of lotus chips and edamame beans. The lotus chips were delicious with a chilli sauce. The edamame beans smoky and spicy. Next course was my favourite - mushroom buns which were full of flavour. Next were vegetarian dumplings for me and cheeseburger dumplings for him. The main was fried rice, crispy eggplant and spatchcock. Overall we couldn't fault the food and the service was very friendly and accommodating. I look forward to coming back!

Definitely worthwhile trying this place. The food tasted great and was generous for the price. It was a bit busy though so it took a number of attempts getting someone's attention as we had been waiting for our dessert for a while and to pay for the bill.
