Tucked into Blackheath’s village heart, Osteria 2785 brings the warmth of rustic Italian cooking to the cool air of the Blue Mountains. The kitchen leans on locally sourced produce and time-honoured techniques, then pairs each plate with thoughtful pours from the Blue Mountains and western regions. Downstairs, the bar hums with the clink of glasses and easy conversation; upstairs, specialty dining rooms promise a cosier pace and a touch of ceremony.

The mood is generous and unhurried, with antipasti that set a confident tone. La Caponata with crostini balances sweet, sour and herbaceous notes in a Sicilian embrace, while fritto misto arrives light and golden, lifted by lemon and a whisper of aioli. It is a familiar grammar of Italian flavours, spoken fluently and without fuss.

Pasta courses linger on the palate: Pappardelle al Ragu di Agnello is deep with braised lamb and red wine, while Fettuccine con i Gamberi marries prawns, cherry tomatoes and a gentle kick of chilli. Secondi keep things classic, from Tagliata con Rucola e Pomodorini to Scaloppine di pollo in Crema di Porcini, with verdure alla mediterranea and patate al forno offering simple, fragrant comfort on the side.

To finish, the playful Tira”Mess”U nods to tradition with savoiardi, crema al mascarpone and a splash of frangelico, while cannoli with ricotta and pistacchio brings a sweet, crunchy close. Slip into the bar for an aperitivo or ascend for a lingering supper. Make a date with Blackheath’s Italian heart and let the evening twirl by, one forkful at a time.
