Cuisine: A La Carte, Contemporary, Modern Australian
Price Point: Mains from Above $30
Ranked: #1 of 22 restaurants in Adelaide

A relaxed restaurant that specialises in native ingredients, floating in a glass pavilion on the River Torrens. With snacks, entrees, mains and desserts, it's the perfect menu to graze your way through with multiple courses sampling some of Australia's finest native produce and ingredients.

Located above their sibling restaurant the River Cafè, Red Ochre has been an Adelaide favourite for more than 20 years, although a recent refurbishment has left it looking sleeker than ever. Artworks that celebrate Aussie bush life by David Bromley contrast with smart charcoal paintwork and textural statement walls.

Every meal here is a true taste of Australia at its most wild, with a focus on ingredients such as desert lime, quandongs and Davidson plums.

Menus include fresh oysters, South Australian seafood, pasta, wood-fired steaks and wholesome meaty mains. Don’t miss lemon myrtle linguine and kangaroo loin with pistachio and wattleseed crust.

The indigenous theme extends to the cocktail list which is informed by foraged botanicals and showcases an excellent selection of local craft spirits.

For a memorable meal firmly rooted in Australia, look no further.

The meal was wonderful, especially the Tempura Crocodile! Service was excellent. View is spectacular at night... Will go back soon.

We had a special birthday to celebrate so a unique restaurant needed to be delected and we certainly got this choice correct. We booked for an early time to enjoy the changing light as the afternoon turned into evening. We were very pleased to be given the perfect table to enjoy the river views.
The food was a feast for both the eyes as well as the palate. I ordered the steak for my main and was very pleased with its tenderness and flavours. The Duck was also a popular and very satifying choice made by the ladies.
The service was prompt and very polite throughout the evening and without any feeling of being rushed.
I certainly would recommend this restaurant for any quality occasion.

Our dinner at Red Ochre was wonderful! We went as a family for a special birthday and everything was perfect. Gorgeous setting right on the River Torrens (window seat was wonderful!), great menu, lovely service but most importantly, every dish was exquisite.

It's a great spot to take tourists/visitors to Adelaide due to the location, with city and river views, and also the menu which focuses on using native Australian ingredients and a few items you don't find elsewhere.

Between us we shared lots of entrees - the kangaroo gyoza, tempura crocodile, scallops with risotto and a squid/prawn dish - everything was delicious. For mains we had the duck leg, pork, kangaroo steak and beef fillet. All sublime!

Using First Table made a special dinner at a moderately-priced restaurant really affordable. Highly recommended!

Our group had a wonderful experience at Red Ochre. The food was delicious and the service excellent. We had a few starters, the pork belly was to die for. For main we had the kangaroo, cooked to perfection. For dessert, we had the sticky date special, so yummy and not overly sweet. We’ll be back!

Entree was delicious! Fresh and tasty. Had the rolls and salmon. Mains quite average. Both had scotch fillet. Not cooked to our liking. Certainly worth going. Service was great

We went out for my mother's birthday, having previously, but not recently, been to Red Ochre on similar occasions. It did not disappoint. Entrees, starters, and mains were fantastic, and while we usually wouldn't get desserts, we did this time, and were glad for it. Every dish was excellent but I'd say the surprising hits were the polenta, sweet potato and warrigal chips, and the chocolate quandong spring rolls. Two of us got the barramundi from the mains and it just melted in your mouth. In all we were there for close to 3 hours, and had a fantastic time. Would definitely recommend.

Great food and view of city. One of the waiters made our visit extra special by arranging a birthday dessert for my husband. Recommend for special occasions and overseas guests.

Lovely views to enjoy while you make your menu choices.
The special red wine Cointreau cocktail (upmarket sangria) was awesome, great start.
The salmon tataki was my stand out dish of the night, beautiful flavors great texture. My husband loved his scallop risotto.
We both enjoyed the tabouli stuffed coorong mullet.
Just had enough room to share the very yummy chocolate desert platter.
The service was as you would expect at this standard of restaurant.

extreamly unpleasant experience. I booked a table for 4 at 6pm, nil notice was given that we need to finish and leave by 8pm. A waitress brought our bill to the table and asked us to pay the bill and leave while my son was still having his icecream for dessert as the table has been booked to another group of people at 8pm. I was very upset. There was no apology given.
