Masala Indian Cuisine Palmer Street

Cuisine: Indian
Price Point: Mains from $15 - $25

Townsville may be scorching all year round, but at Masala Indian Cuisine Palmer Street, you certainly don't need to have it hot. Here you can enjoy mouthwatering Indian cuisine without needing a gallon of milk on standby.

The perfect place for large groups and special occasions, this eatery is fun and informal; the perfect place to organise a much-needed catch-up. Feel free to push tables together, mix and match curries, kebabs, and naans and join in the fun.

They say good things come to those who wait, so delay the curry until you've gorged on some delicious entrees, like their meat and vegetarian samosas, Seek kebab and kofta fried. Then, it's time to pick your meat and favourite curry, simple as! Tender lamb comes in the form of saag gosh, korma and madras while the beef vindaloo, pepper beef and beef madras remain popular crowd-pleasers.

For something more conventional, there's butter and mango chicken as well as veggie korma and the classic daal fry. There's no point just getting steamed rice! Be savvy and order naans in all varieties, pappadums, and rice between you all. Variety is the (not too spicy) spice of life!

If your thinking of going to Masala, my advice is "DO IT". I was a little apprehensive as I have two kids who do not like hot food, And to my surprise both my husband, kids and myself loved every bit of the meal. The table services were at a high standard. It was a pleasure to eat here and we will be back - Thankyou.

4 of us shared 2 Entree's and 4 main's, There was so much food left over and they put it in a take away container for us. All the meals were amazing and the staff were very lovely.

With views across the water and up to Castle Hill there's always a good breeze if you grab one of the many outdoor tables.

Once seated you can quench your thirst with an icy cold Kingfisher lager, one of India's finest exports or a glass of wine.

The menu is extensive and we started with the Mansoori Kebabs (think tandori lamb cutlets with a mint-yoghurt dipping sauce) and some samosa.

Mains were an assortment of their most popular dish - Butter chicken, Lamb Madras and the awe inspiring beef vindaloo. As the restaurant catch phrase goes "You dont have to have it hot" - we opted for medium strength butter chicken but I always like my vindaloo with a bit of zing and was obliged.

Desserts are covered as well and we sampled mango ice cream with the Indian version of dumplings - think a dense donut covered with a golden syrup style sauce.

All in all an enjoyable evening, the staff are friendly and attentive, the drinks cold and the food awesome - all combined with great outdoor dining , views and an ocean breeze. Definitely a recommended venue
