For flipping good sweet and savoury pancakes, you cant beat this retro neighbourhood spot.

The Pancake Kitchen has been a much loved Ballarat institution since 1980 and it is still independently owned, giving it a unique, friendly vibe that people of all ages will love.

The menu is enormous, covering everything from breakfast through to salads, gluten free pancakes, savoury sides, kids meals and of course decadent pancake stacks gleaming with whipped butter and syrup. Ideal for sharing, or not…

Crowd pleasers include the famous cheese and potato pancake, topped with a golden crust of melting cheese, a meaty Mexican option filled with spicy salsa and our must-try of walnuts caramelised in maple butter, served with cinnamon and ice cream.

A selection of cocktails, wines, beers and liqueurs will keep the grown ups happy, while kids will go wild for their thick, frothy ice cream milkshakes.

I can barely type this: being in a 12-hours-later food coma makes writing difficult. But hungry folk need to know this: the Pancake Kitchen is a rocker of worlds, a buster of guts, a saviour of sweet (and savoury!) tooths. I devoured their Mexican combo pancakes, a treat in themselves, before moving on to a whopping dessert share with my family. The tiramisu pancakes were decadent and divine, and the sweet pancake medley was an outrage of the best possible kind, a tastebud tour of four of the most lush toppings ever to pass my lips and loosen my belt. Pancake Kitchen, you have been warned: we’ll be back!

We don’t usually get to eat out much, life is busy and the costs can add up! Once we heard about First Table and found out that Ballarat’s iconic Pancake Kitchen was involved we knew that’s where we would be going!
The staff were very friendly and greeted us the moment we stepped foot in the door.
Our son ordered a Pancake stack with butter and syrup for his dinner and he couldn’t believe how big and fluffy the pancakes were!
My husband and I both ordered their meal deal - Either an entree and main or a main and dessert. Doing this combo saved a few dollars yet again.
We both ordered the Cottage Fries, myself as a main and my husband as an entree - par boiled potatoes in their skins, then fried and served with sour cream. They were delicious!
For main my husband ordered the Mexican Chicken Crepes - They had a mild chilli bite to them and he thoroughly enjoyed it!
I had the Barbarian Apple Pancakes for dessert - spiced apple and cinnamon on two fluffy pancakes. They were scrumptious.
Safe to say, we will be back!

Great food and service. The staff are friendly, especially the one who was responsible for our table. He keep an eye on our table from the order to the end of the meal. One of our dishes was served late but we were ok with it as the waiter was apologised for it and offered a free soft drink for that. The pancakes were yummy, Mexican crepes was great, the steak was okay. With the discount from first table, the value was awesome. Thank you for your service.

No doubt this is my family’s favourite restaurant. The staff are exceptional always 5/5 for service . Food is excellent meals are very large serves and I’m grateful we could take left overs home so not to feel guilty for wasting food. I enjoyed the fresh rhubarb and raspberries pancakes. My son added the hot chocolate drink to his order and loved it with the added marshmallows. Lovely night out. Thank you.

We had a lovely table next to the fire, perfect for a cold night. Our order was taken promptly and our food arrived quickly. Our meals were delicious! We enjoyed a game of chess too.

Fun, family-friendly restaurant atmosphere. Staff were eager to be of assistance, impressive after their numerous trips up and down the stairs.
Cosy dining seating arrangements highly recommended for the introverted type who don't like people looking over their shoulder!

Only difficulty was the personal struggle of whether to go with the savoury or the sweet options and deciding if chocolate chip pancakes with a blue heaven ice cream soda could qualify as a well-balanced, nutritious dinner!!

Would highly recommend First Table for a great way to enjoy regular restaurant dining for the family that won't break the budget.

This was our second visit, this time we tried savoury meals . I had the fish on potato pancake it was perfectly cooked , still very large meals even though I ordered small serve, so would certainly satisfy a big eater . The staff are excellent and go out of their way to provide a enjoyable atmosphere. My son loves the kids activities offered before the meal . Highly recommend dining here . Looking forward to returning and working our way through the menu.

We were celebrating our son's 4th birthday and because of his strong love of all things pancake we chose to dine the Pancake Kitchen Ballarat. The staff were great decorating an area of the restuarant with balloons and streamers and bringing out an amazing birthday dessert for the birthday boy with chocolate fudge topping, marshmallows, strawberry, banana, sprinkles, icecream... it was the best. And the look on his little face was priceless!

We loved the old school restaurant and view from the top floor! Service was fast and the food was plentiful. Be prepared for massive serves and a sugar overload! Thanks pancake kitchen, we had a fun night.

With two small children who can be very noisy, it was gray to eat out when we had the restaurant to ourselves so we weren’t disturbing other diners.
The food was yummy and the service was great!
