This restaurant is housed in the Mercure Sydney, located near Central Station at Railway Square. Platform 818 pays homage to the history and heritage of the railway system with a menu that will transport you through New South Wales thanks to its locally sourced produce.

Starters include truffle honey-roasted fig and sticky BBQ pressed Riverina brisket, with mains continuing that local theme from the Cloudy Bay diamond clams to the Break Out River lamb rump. You can finish your meal off with a selection of delicious desserts.

Our server Georgia was fantastic, and offered great suggestions for food and drink. The meal was great, our steaks were cooked perfectly, but there could have been more vegies on the plate. Being a hotel restaurant, the service was the stand out.

Enjoyed my meal at Platform 818. Good food options, standout dishes for us on the night were the BBQ brisket, garlic prawns, and the rotollo. The staff were friendly and attentive, the ambiance cosy and relaxed. I recommend this place and will definitely be back.

Great portion and quite succulent. Lamb was a little tough. Duck was lovely.
Garlic prawn was so naughty and heavenly. You guys gotta try. Perfect with bread - dip it in that garlic sauce!

Only thing was as we were walking out the side a waitress chased us to ask if we paid!! Haha omg... she wasn't even our waitress.

Kind service, if slow despite being a quiet night (although they got our order wrong-and didn’t offer to fix it - they were still quite polite). Mediocre food for the price, but decent considering it’s a hotel restaurant. And ultimately that’s exactly what it is, despite their attempts to go beyond - a solid hotel restaurant.
Specifics - beef cheek was a bit dry, but the sauce was good. Steaks were well cooked, but not appropriate quality for their cost. You can find a better deal in Sydney, but if you’re staying in the hotel and just don’t feel like going out, you’ll still have an enjoyable meal.

On a rainy Sunday night, friendly wait staff with good knowledge of menu. Decent selection of wine by the glass. Starter choice limited. Garlic prawns well cooked. Fig with blue cheese nice but serve with 2 thick pieces of baguette . Grilled pork chop tender with nice mushroom sauce. Bread rolls bland. New Orleans jazz not quite dinner music. PL

Fantastic hotel restaurant. Decorated beautifully and the food is sensational. Always love complimentary bread and enjoyed the dumpling “from the chef”. Only feedback would be for staff to be aware which diners are staying in the hotel and which aren’t - we were asked about 6 times. Will definitely come back - the set menu for groups looks to offer fantastic value.

We had three courses, an aperitif and some wine and all was excellent, however, the 150 day grassfed steak was the very best meat I can spontaneously recall to ever have eaten. It was cooked to perfection, served with a good choice of sides and just melted in our mouths.

The truffle in the truffle figs was very mild (could have been stronger) while the dish itself was very good, so (or even better) were the scallops.

Not a big fan of desserts in general - cheescake and panna cotta were good, but least outstanding to me.

Service was very polite and present as well as quick and accommodating all requests.

Will be happy to go back.
