Mike McEnearney is executive chef and owner of No.1 Bent St. His career began in 1990 in Sydney’s world renowned restaurant, Rockpool. He then worked in Michelin-starred and critically acclaimed restaurants in London before returning to Australia.

In 2011 his restaurant ‘Mike’s Table’ gained cult status and in 2012 ‘Kitchen by Mike’ won best café award in the Time Out Sydney Food Awards. It’s safe to say No.1 Bent St was a highly anticipated restaurant which quickly became established as a favourite on the Sydney dining scene.

The refined yet quirky restaurant has a stripy ceiling and long, bespoke wooden tables. The kitchen island is backed by a large wood-fired oven and one corner is dedicated to fresh, crusty bread and cultured salted butter.

The cuisine is made with Mike’s trademark passion and respect for the process and produce used. Expect dishes created from the ground up; twice cooked goats cheese soufflé with rosemary, spit roast chicken vinaigrette and wood grilled octopus are just some of the dishes on offer. We had a beautiful dinner here. It was our date night and we were greeted by our lovely waiter who was both attentive and personable. His recommendations were spot on. The chicken liver pate made fresh daily is an absolute must for an entree/appetiser! My favourite part of the experience was that the dishes are made to share, giving a diverse range of flavours which pleased our palates!

It was my first time on First Table and to this restaurant and I must say I was extremely impressed. My partner said her favourite part was the anticipation of the dishes coming out.

I would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting to take a special someone for a different fine dining experience.

What a great first experience. Normally first table bookings shove you in the corner but we got the table closet to the kitchen. Great touch. Service from Rory (I believe been there almost as long as furniture) was a delight, fun, informative and not over bearing. An experience to remember. Food was perfect and so great for the coals it's cooked on. We will be back for sure.

My first table experience at No 1 Bent Street by Mike was ordinary. While the food was very good, the unsavoury aspects were:
* While the fine print stated that you cannot pick specials from the board , the menu that you could pick from had no main meals - they were all entree size.
* The pressure to wolf down the food was intense so that the table could be vacated even way before the stated time of 7 pm as the restaurant was getting busy on the Thursday night.

Would I recommend to friends - probably not, even though food was good.

The scallops and the cheese souffle were to die for - I'd highly recommend! The calamari was slightly chewy but tasty nonetheless. My partner and I shared 4 dishes plus a side and we were both so full! Finishing on the chocolate tart was the perfect way to end the meal. I couldn't fault the service, it was fantastic. I'll definitely be back!

My husband and I had a great dinner after work. We opted to have 6 dishes as reccomended by the wait staff. The dishes were unique, well presented and very delicious, concluding with an amazing chocolate tart. For me the stand out dish was the calamari with an outstanding squid ink dressing, I loved mopping it up with the house sourdough. My husband couldn't get enough of the baked scallops which were cooked to perfection.

The service was attentive and the ambiance was intimate. We loved our experience and highly recommend this restaurant.

My first booking with First Table. Very happy with the restaurant. I found out a few restrictions with special deal. I knew half price on food not drinks. Found out after booking that deal only on normal menu but not blackboard special. Found out when started ordering that not on $ 70 set menu but we have to order. By recommendation , we ordered 8 dishes for 4 people and 3 desserts. Should be enough as 2 ladies are very small eaters and 2 men will eat normal. But end of the day we worked out we should have ordered more. As some were entree types and some were main meal types, 3 plates per head should have been good.
But overall every plate was excellent in presentation and taste.
Gave 4 stars for service because we got 6 dishes in first half an hour and nothing came for 2nd half an hour so we started ordering our desserts because we were worried that we will not finish dinner in one and a half hour.
We still want to go back as we like the dining experience there.

Fantastic food, very posh! Portions are small, so you need to take 4 - 6 meals to be full. If you’re a small portion eater then this place will be perfect. By the way, the waitress did warn us of this. Entree size with a main course price.

Food was ok, but I would not pay a full price and definitely would never get drinks in that restaurant. Drinks were underwhelming! Chardonnay was so bad I couldn’t drink it. Cocktails are also very bad, and portions are about 30-40 gram but it’s not half price... our waiter tried to accommodate but the bartender first refused to look at the cocktail but when we asked to check it for the second time he just added some ice in a martini (!) to make it look bigger. Our waiter and hostess were nice, adjusted air conditioning for us. But the drinks list and a bartender situation were very offputting.

Wow!! Everything was perfect.

My dining experience with my partner was such a delight! The food was equally matched with the service. Our waiter offered great anecdotes to our dishes such as the origin of the mysterious 'beach banana' on our calamari dish and Beyonce's long extensive preparation to meet the Queen.

I highly recommend the baked scallops, cheese souffle and if its still on the blackboard, the broccoli with anchovy butter.

I will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu.

First time using FirstTable and first time dining at No. 1 Bent Street and could no have been happier. Service was 100% straight off the bat and the food was excellent. Our waiter had so much knowledge about what food they cooked, which dishes compliment each other and also background information on where the ingredients come from which we thought was cool. This is a great initiative! First time I had used First Table. We were going to the Moonlight
Cinema so the timing was perfect. Our waiter Ronnie was just lovely.
It’s quite a bit of pressure to feed everyone and get them out but we didn’t feel rushed even though some of our party was a bit late.
The food was excellent. Fresh and flavourful; and innovative without being overweird.
We were able to stay for dessert which was divine! Really enjoyed this experience.

Best service we have had in a long time, cannot remember our waitresses name, but she was Italian and she was fantastic! She took the time tp explain the menu amd make recommendations.

The food was also great, we had mainly the shared tasting plates. The pate was great, as were the leeks and the striaccia with nectarine.

It's hard to describe what a wonderful time we had at No. 1 Bent Street. The food was amazing and our waiter was superbly attentive to us. The Staff were accommodating and friendly. The food was excellent, very interesting and innovative dishes. Staff were knowledgeable about the dishes and were able to make good recommendations.
