Cuisine: American (Traditional), Cajun / Creole
Price Point: Mains from $15 - $30

Cajun creole food like you've never seen it outside New Orleans! Enjoy tasty bites, classic American cocktails and great service at The Moldy Fig.

‘Moldy fig’ is an old insult directed at jazz purists who argued that jazz took a wrong turn in the 1920s, when developments like the introduction of printed scores occurred. The Moldy Fig here in Melbourne is a hub of traditionalists too – the team love traditional Cajun creole food, prepared with passion and dedication.

Tuck into gumbo, voodoo prawns and twice smashed potato. The menu is split into tempting vegetable dishes, seafood dishes and meat, poultry and game dishes. This extensive (and delicious) menu includes many vegetarian, vegan and gluten free dishes. If you’ve got any allergies, talk to your wait staff and they’ll happily guide you through the menu.

Finish off your meal with one of the chef’s very special desserts including chef’s special pies all served with cream, ice cream or crème anglaise. Once you’ve satisfied your sweet tooth, kick back with a classic American cocktail; feel Great Gatsby-esque with a mint julep or make your evening pop with a silver gin fizz.

It was a lovely experience, The atmosphere was lovely and the staff were pleasant and attentive. The food was yummy, definitely more of a plate share place which I am glad was emphasised. Overall it is ideal for managing to try the flavours of multiple dishes.

We have been there several times and love it:) The food is excellent but most importantly there is an extremely positive vibe there. Thanks for a great night and the live music. See you soon!

Nothing mouldy about it! Mum and daughter team dish up tasty Cajun backed by ok drinks and great front of house service. Don't know if true Moldy Figs would approve of the singer who serenaded us but it's great to have live musos.

We had an amazing dinner here. Live music to ease you into the mood, great drink options and friendly helpful staff. The food was great especially the cornbread and seafood etouffee. The pork belly was melt in your mouth, southern fried chicken pieces were crispy and smashed potatoes yummo! Definitely returning- especially when there's a whisper of root beer in the air.
Thanks for a great night Vivienne and team! Xx

Fantastic meal, fantastic night. Enjoyed some gumbo and jambalaya, both bursting with flavour and complimented with sides and desserts. We were lucky enough to be there while 3 separate singers performed making it a really memorable evening. Thank you Moldy Fig!

Service was prompt and courteous but not intrusive. Food was excellent and we"ll certainly be going back to sample the rest of the menu and another cocktail or two. "JAMBALAYA!"

Great new restaurant to visit. Service and food was amazing, good recommendations by the staff, and accommodating with dietery requirements.
Music was great and not too loud that we couldn't talk.

It was a cold night but even seated by the window we felt warm and welcomed by the staff. They were so incredibly friendly.

The menu was explained and we selected a few different things both to share and eat separately, luckily eating early also meant it was happy hour, so another win there.
In terms of the food the fried mushrooms were very good, I almost finished them all myself, and my partner enjoyed the heat of the gumbo but felt a bit let down by the meatballs.
The cornbread however was very tasty, especially the garlic flavour.

The items on the menu we didn't try on the menu all sounded pretty amazing and I would have no hesitation in recommending The Moldy Fig to friends, or taking a group back with me.

Be warned, Wednesday is open mic night, but the music was actually pretty good, so no complaints there either.

The smooth beats, hot sauce in my cocktail and the amazing food transported me back to "New Awlins" (for those needing help with pronounciation).. The wall art and friendly service adds to the great vibe of this not-so-little gem! If you're stuck on what to pick from the menu, rest assured the staff will help you pick some winning dishes. Can't wait to get back and tick off some more dishes (and cocktails!)

It was a very memorable experience. There were 3 of us and we ordered several dishes to share: sweet potato & corn chips, sweet corn cobs, rabbit fricassee, prawn & chicken jambalaya, shrimp creole, Southern fried chicken and the chicken gumbo. What a treat! I was a bit hesitant to try the food, thinking it would be too similar to the creole Mauritian cuisine from my childhood. It was similar in a way, but different as well. So many flavours - it was an absolute treat! Our favourite was the jambalaya. It was also happy hour and the red wine was divine. Will definitely go back. Thanks for an awesome night :)
