Cuisine: Italian, Pizza
Price Point: Mains from $15 - $35

With knockout pizza and fantastic service, The Forge Pizzeria is ready to smash your expectations.

This multi award-winning pizzeria was established in 2010 by brothers Chris and Tim Matthews.
It was named after their Grandfather, who was a proud Blacksmith in Ballarat. At the heart of his Blacksmith’s shop, a fire called the forge burned, and so the name was borne.

Passionate in pizza perfection, The Forge creates delicious woodfired pizzas, using the finest local produce and fresh deli ingredients. Diners can watch an expert stretcher spin the fresh dough, before adding tasty toppings and cooking it in a wood-fired oven. Fresh, healthy and woodfired: how pizza should be!

You can also enjoy handmade pasta, fresh salads and to-die-for desserts (don’t forget to try their signature tiramisu!). For heartwarming hospitality and exceptional Italian food, head to The Forge, on Armstrong Street North.

The Forge is always a favourite of ours, and when we discovered we could use First Table there, it was a no brainer for date night! The service was impeccable, the food was fast, fresh and oh so tasty (can y'all just deliver that gnocchi to me every lunch time please?) and the beer and wine selections as always, was great. If you love Lamb, get the Shearers Pizza. Just do it. Don't even look at the menu, just order it and thank me later. It is heaven on a plate.

Thanks Forge, we will be seeing you again super soon!

FOOD:

Mouthwatering and flavorsome rustic style food.

Starting with the amazing croquettes (Proscuitto and parmesan in crispy breadcrumbs) and the Charcuterie Board (filled with cured meats, pickles, and the most AMAZING terrine), paired with a glass of Sangiovese.

We followed this with a soft, melt in your mouth lamb pizza with creamy goats cheese and lemon butter and pumpkin filled giant tortellini.

We ended our meal with the creamy and tasty tiramisu, filled with rich vanilla and coffee flavours. Although we were eyeing off the lemon meringue pizza, we just could not fit it in!

We certainly left the place, satisfied and full!

ATMOSPHERE:

The atmosphere was cozy, warm and inviting, perfect for this cold, Ballarat weather!

Such a family friendly place, perfect for dates, bringing the kids or catching up with a group of friends.

STAFF:

The service is always great within this place, attentive, without leaving us feeling bombarded.

VALUE:

Seriously, try out this first table deal! Provides you with more chances to try new menu items and enjoy your dining experience!

If booking through first table, you get out at specific tables- either by the front window, which is probably fine most days, but the sun shines through very brightly, and we were there on a hot, hot day and it was unbearable. The only other option is outside. I guess one or the other is okay, but I probably would have like to know beforehand.

The food was delicious, the service was good. I absolutely recommend the gnocchi gorgonzola! We unfortunately were sat at a table directly in the window, on a 35 degree day. We shuffled around trying to stay in the shade, however the dining experience was dampened by the scorching heat. One of the staff did notice our discomfort at the end of our meal, and offered to move us but by that point we had had enough and were ready to leave.

The service was prompt and the staff interacted with the kids in a friendly and non-patronising way. The pizzas were really delicious and we were able to take home the few slices we couldn't eat. A bit noisy once more people came in, but overall a great experience.

Great friendly service, the pizza, sweet potato chips and croquettes were delicious, I would of preferred more topping on the pizza as they are quite expensive, service was fast and friendly

The atmosphere was retro and clean, the staff were pleasant and the pizzas were cooked to perfection. Suggest you try the pumpkin pizza and affagato with frangelico and the Butcher pizza. The kids loved their cheese pizza and little bolognese and hot chocolate and chocolate milk shake.

What is there not to like about The Forge? A swift and welcoming greeting upon arrival. The decor is relaxed and urban rustic. The menu is intelligent offering share starters, pizzas and pastas which feature fresh ingredients complimented by a kitchen of seriously well trained cooks and chefs. I opted for the Tortellino ( yes not tortellini ) with goats cheese, pumpkin and sage. A plentiful serve with flavours which had me wanting to lick the plate! We didn't feel rushed but as we were leaving many were coming in for dinner. Loved we made it home for the 7pm ABC news

Excellent relaxed but trendy dining for a family. Our waiters were attentive but not intrusive and the food was delicious! The food came out quickly, which pleased our impatient toddler!
